Wordpress Upgrade March 31, 2008

I’ve blogged a couple of times regarding Wordpress and how easy it is to set up and how well it works.  Well here I am again.  I am now running v 2.5 which is the much enhanced admin interface version.

The upgrade went totally smoothly.  Upgrading the previous 2.3.x versions had all worked without a hitch but going to a totally new version was still met with trepidation.  However I should by now know better, everything worked a treat as this post shows :-).

The new interface is clean and simpler than the previous one and on the editing side has introduced a number of new media adding options which I look forward to using in due course.

All in all it’s a good thing.

Instapaper March 28, 2008

I’m a huge fan of RSS and currently have close to 60 feeds subscribed to (via Google Reader).  Obviously that’s a lot of articles to go through and I read only a small percentage of these.  One problem is that many of these feeds are from sites that kick out a lot of content (Digg, Engadget, Techcrunch etc) and I can’t always read items of interest there and then.  If I leave them unread on the feed this can be a pain as by the time I get back to the list there could be another 100+ items and I will have forgotten about the interesting one.

Well help is at hand.  Marco Arment has knocked up a website that allows you to tag a page on another site for later reading.  It’s called Instapaper and once you’ve set yourself up there is a bookmarklet to add to your links bar and then when you see an article of interest in RSS (or indeed that you some across any other way) you go to the page in question, click the bookmarklet and it is added to your Instapaper.  Then when you have time on your hands, go to the Instapaper site and all your read and unread pages are listed for you to read at your leisure.  I’ve found it really helpful.

 Instapaper can be found here.

This is cool. A robotic “animal” capable of recovering from a side swipe, walking on ice and jumping. It is being part funded by DARPA and they brought us the Internet so be warned! Bow down before your future overlord.

OK so it’s a little sad and depressing but I recognise bits of people’s lives at every stage!

Crayon Physics March 24, 2008

At the recent GDC in San Francisco there was a demo of the follow up for the highly entertaining and cool Crayon Physics game. This has always been a cool concept but then freeware original only lets you draw blocks. The work on the upcoming game looks pretty awesome with a whole load of shapes and the inclusion of pivot points makes it a whole new experience. One I’m looking forward to.
